Enjoying sparkling wine is more than just sipping a beverage. It’s an experience that excites all the senses. There are many reasons to love Champagne and sparkling wines. Here are the top five.

  1. The sound of a cork being popped. It's joyous! Champagne experts advise that the cork should sound like a sigh when it's removed properly. Removing the cork very gently is not only safer but avoids the sudden drop in pressure that destroys some of those precious bubbles. Plus, popping the cork in public is thought to be bad manners. However, if you’re among friends you can still open the bottle gently and achieve the celebratory pop that signifies “you’re about to experience something special.”

  2.  The sight of the sparkling wine being poured into a glass as the tiny bubbles bring the wine to life. Tilt the glass slightly so the wine runs down the side of the glass as it’s being poured. This preserves the bubbles rather than dissipating into foam.

  3. The vision of the bubbles rising from the bottom of a Champagne flute. The taller the flute, the taller the stream of bubbles ascending like tiny stars to the top of the glass. It's become popular these days to drink sparkling wine from a larger glass because it enhances the aromas. There is no one right answer. It’s up to you to decide whether you want the bubbles or the aromas to be the star of the show.

  4.  The sensation of the bubbles tickling the tongue like little stars exploding on the taste buds. All the more reason to preserve those bubbles!

  5. The taste of the sparkling wine when it’s paired with food. Sparkling wines and Champagnes go with a wide array of foods. In fact, many dishes are easier to pair with a sparkling wine, especially spicy foods that are often difficult to pair with other wines. Sparkling wines can be enjoyed with the entire meal, not just as the aperitif. And they are no longer considered wines for only special occasions. Many people enjoy sparkling wines with their meal on a Tuesday or at a summer barbecue.
